Dr Max's hospitality industry secrets from the #1 hotel in the world

Last week I did a training session with management team at the hotel voted the best hotel in the world - the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai. While there I had a lengthy meeting with the hotel manager, Serge Zaalof. It's hard to find sufficient superlatives to describe Serge. Amazing, dedicated, enthusiastic, perceptive are words that immediately come to mind. Serge is assisted by many superb professionals. Two, who immediately come to mind, are Horst Walther (the F & B Manager) and Janet Dobbin (the Training Manager). Let me give you a brief insight into the policies of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

When asked why the hotel was selected as the best hotel in the world, in three different categories, Serge compressed his reply to three points: (1) Quality product (2) Quality policy (3) Quality staff. Simple? Yes! Effective? Yes! Easily achievable? No! Many hotels around the world pay lip service to the same three points. But the Jumeirah Beach achieves it beyond your wildest expectations. The three core values underpinning their standard operating procedure are: (1) Greet the guest before they greet you (2) Never say "No" to a guest (3) Treat your fellow workers as you would wish to be treated
