Dr Max's hospitality industry secret about Budget Rent a Car

2000 celebrates the 40th anniversary of Budget Rent A Car. In 1958 Morris Mirkin and Jules Lederer established an auto rental company in Los Angeles. Starting with 10 cars, they charged customers $4 a day and 4 cents a mile. Two years later they formed Budget Rent a Car Corporation of America.

The firm grew fast, primarily through franchising and by concentrating on the leisure travel market. Budget moved its headquarters to Chicago in 1967. Transamerica Corporation bought Budget for more than $5 million in 1968. Budget has operations at 1,000 US locations and 2,200 locations in 117 other countries.
