Dr Max's hospitality industry secret about Bethlehem Steel's 100th birthday

In 1857 Suacona Iron began business in South Bethlehem, Pennyylvania. In 1899 Saucona changed its' name to Bethlehem Steel. Hence, in 1999, this giant company celebrates its 100 birthday.

The company rates in the top 500 companies in America. It employs 19,000 people and since 1899 has moved in and out associated industries including ship building, railroads, steel plants, building and construction, iron mines in Chile, shipyards, freight cars and auto parts… to name a few.

P.S. Did you know in the 1930's Charles Schwabb, the then head of Bethlehem Steel, is said to have paid "a fortune" to a consultant for some simple time management advice. The advice was to daily write down the most important tasks, number them and then work thru them. The consultant told Schwabb to circulate the idea amongst his management team. "Pay me whatever amount you think the idea is worth" said the consultant. Schwabb sent him $25,000. Schwabb credited the idea as a major factor in making the company the, then, biggest steel maker in the world!
