“The secret to running a successful hotels has changed, Max” said Georges Torrani the Directeur Regional/Area General Manager of Le Meridien Hotel Group in New Caledonia. “We used to say the secret to success in the hotel business was location, location, location. But now it is communication, communication, communication.”

I met with the very impressive Mr Torrani when I spent last week in Noumea as the MC of a conference for Australian hoteliers from New South Wales.

“You have to continually communicate your vision, your expectations and your procedures to your management team” continued Mr Torrani. “They, in turn have to communicate this to the rest of the team. Then we all have to communicate with our guests. And the best was to communicate with our staff and guests is to LISTEN to them.”
