We have just completed an extremely successful marketing exercise in slip streaming on the Australian elections. We gathered together fourteen Pubs around Australia and conducted weekly surveys. The surveys contained ‘tongue in cheek’ questions designed to get replies that would entice and entertain the media. Our strategy worked like a charm. We managed to get ‘free media’ coverage all around Australia. Check out the format and the survey results at http://www.pubpolls.com.au

Now we are moving on to ‘slip stream’ on Australia’s Melbourne Cup. (Held on the 2nd of November) For those who have never heard of the Melbourne Cup, I happily tell it is a horse race that stops the entire nation. (I know that sounds wacky ...but that’s another story.)

For ages I’ve stumbled through the pages of history of the Melbourne Cup. I’ve collected fables and folklore, facts and fictions, superstitions and the super stories. And now, each year, I produce an E-book about the Cup. As an author and story teller my main objective is to reconstruct the scenes, revive the echoes and rekindle the passions of the past. Always, at this time of year, the media is looking for Cup stories. I send them a copy of my E-book. They talk and write about it. Visitors come to the site and buy the E-book. It’s a good system!
