**Showing is better than telling**

“Showing is better than telling, son” were words my wise old Dad said to me many years ago.

You may remember, some months ago, I wrote about how to get free media at ‘election’ time. I called it Slipstream Marketing. And I mentioned Australia was having a Federal Election before the end of 2004. I wrote about how to ride in the ‘media slipstream’ created by major events. Now I want to show you how we are doing it. Australia’s Federal election is on 9th of October. And with advice from Internet Marketing Guru Peter Thorpe (see ) and my wonderful web master Gihan Perera (see http://www.firststep.com.au) we have set up an web site and a web log ( a BLOG) at http://www.PubPolls.com.au.

You’ll see how we have gathered fourteen pubs around Australia and are now conducting regular polls in these pubs. We introduced the media to our concept with this opening paragraph in our News Release: "Max, everybody knows it's the swinging voter who either brings about a change of Government or keeps the same Party in power" said the, then, Federal politician Ralph Hunt. "And it's the people in the pubs who are the swinging voters. What are they saying in your pub, Max? Who do they think will win the election?"

In a media e-mail out we invited the media to check out our site. I happily tell we have been inundated with e-mails from media all around the country. We told them it was not all serious stuff. I’ve learned the key is providing something entertaining for the media. It’s their job to inform. But they are more successful if they can inform and entertain at the same time.
