The best example of the worst customer service I’ve ever had

Many years ago Denis Buchannan, a General Manager with Hilton Hotels, explained to me a dissatisfied customer always offered a wonderful opportunity to build a strong relationship. I remember he said “Max, most managers run away from the complaining or unhappy customer. I run towards them!”

Recently I had the best example of the worst customer service I’ve ever had - from the credit card company Diners Club. There is a real learning curve in the story for anyone who is dealing with people. It’s too long to include here, as I try to keep these weekly e-mails to you to three short paragraphs. (Principally because I usually delete any e-zine that doesn’t get its’ message across to me within three/four short paragraphs.)
