“Flying” with Wilbur and Orville Wright

William Butler Yeats once said “Education is not the filling of the pail but the lighting of the fire.” In last week’s e-mail I told of the opportunity offered by the centenary of aviation on the 17th of December. Well, this snippet of information ‘lit the fire’ last week for Harti Hadisoemo, the Director of Sales and Marketing for Swiss Belhotels Ciputra Hotel Group in Indonesia.

“Thanks Max” wrote Harti. “This is a brilliant idea. I immediately forwarded your e-mail to all department heads and our sales team to get the ideas rolling. We have international and domestic airline crews staying with us. I’ll also be contacting International airline managers as well as the top person in Garuda Airlines Indonesia.”

May I ask...what you did about it? You may remember I wrote “You might approach your local travel agents association and suggest celebrating this ‘moment in time’ at your place. The occasion can be as big or as small as you and an enthusiastic travel agent want to make it. At least, call your local travel agents and suggest they bring their staff or their best clients to lunch or dinner at your place to celebrate at your place.” Did you?

PS. I’m always inspired by people like George Bernard Shaw, the Wright Brothers and Harti Hadisoemo. It was George Bernard Shaw who, around 1906, first said “Some people see things as the are and ask...Why? I dream of things that never were and ask...Why not?”
