Your hospitality industry secret about surveys attracting free media

"Life is a buffet not a sit down meal. No one is going to serve you. You've got to walk up to the table and fill your own plate." So said Ian Percy of Canada. Hence if you want some free media be prepared to 'serve yourself.' And you can serve yourself by doing a survey and sending the results to the media. Be aware of the old adage that 'sex sells.' I'm not being sleazy...just reminding you of the facts of life...for the media.

I recently watched a current affair host as he reported the results of a survey of working women. He told how the survey indicated the last thing a working woman want after a hard day's work is to dive into a passion pit with their hubby or boyfriend. They interviewed a female radio breakfast program host; women who were hanging out the washing and women taking kids to school. All agreed with the survey.

Hey...this in not ground breaking material! I'm sure a hundred years ago women would have said the same thing. Yet, because it was a 'survey', because sex is always a hot topic it made national news. The media loves surveys.
