Dr Max's hospitality industry tip about 'hire tough and manage easy'

"I am fortunate enough to be related to a brilliant father" wrote Steven Kleiman "who owns his own consulting company. This company focuses on recruiting and hiring hourly employees. One of his concepts is CAPS. Capacity, Attitude, Personality, and Skills. I feel this is in line with your ongoing lessons of valuable employees. Dr Max, you should visit their websites at www.hiretough.com and http://www.humetrics.com and see for yourself. I am sure you will find his concept interesting".

Steven is not making an outlandish statement when he refers to his Father, Mel Kleiman, as brilliant. Not only did I visit the web sites, I'm now the very enthusiastic owner of two of his books "Hire Tough - Manage Easy" and "Hire Tough - Proven Interview questions".

You may recall a few weeks ago I referred you to an article written by Tom Shannahan http://www.customerservice.com/public/Article4.asp. Mel Kleiman's books follow on this article and tells how dramatically things are changing all around us. Yet we continue to use old methods to hire our most important asset - our staff. It seems most hospitality industry managers put more thought and care into writing big ticket purchase orders than they put into hiring new employees.

"Generally more research is done supplying justifying documentation to management before purchasing a $5000 piece of office equipment than hiring staff?" according to Mel Klieman. WOW! These books will really make you THINK! I respectfully suggest they are a must for your armory in the continuing battle to hire better staff.

Until next week, I wish you good luck, good life and good fun.

PS. My Father used to say "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got!"

PPS. Just had to include this thank you. Last week when we told of QANTAS being the world's 'second oldest' airline I also asked if anyone knew the 'oldest' airline. I've had many replies telling it is KLM - thankyou - but Pat Hawkins took it a step further and sent this research which is beneficial for all of us.

KLM abbreviation OF KONINKLIJKE LUCHTVAARTMAATSCHAPPIJ NV (Dutch: Royal Air Transportation Company), English Royal Dutch Airlines, Dutch airline founded on Oct. 7, 1919, and flying its first scheduled service, between Amsterdam and London, on May 17, 1920. It is the world's oldest continuously operating airline. Headquarters are at Amstelveen, Netherlands.
